Synopsis

Short stories characterizing one of the most important symbols of Russian culture. The documentary film "Ah, the Hermitage" is a continuation of the painting "The Hermitage with Love", consisting of minute-long stories about the history of the State Hermitage Museum, its exhibits, employees, storages, restoration workshops, research and historical projects.

Work Experience

In my work on the documentary film "Ah, Hermitage," a sequel to "The Hermitage with Love," I was tasked with handling an extensive volume of footage, approximately 350-400 hours. This material required meticulous sorting, with the additional challenge of lost audio synchronizations, which was a significant hurdle in maintaining the integrity and mood of the documentary. The editing process demanded a delicate balance to avoid disrupting the viewer's experience through excessive dynamism or, conversely, lack of energy. This project deepened my understanding of working with music and rhythm in film editing. I learned the importance of carefully selecting musical pieces that complemented the visual narrative, enhancing the storytelling without overwhelming it. Each minute-long story about the history of the State Hermitage Museum, its exhibits, employees, storages, restoration workshops, and research and historical projects, required a unique approach to ensure that the essence and significance of these elements were communicated effectively. My experience with "Ah, Hermitage" has significantly enriched my skill set in film editing, particularly in aspects of pacing, mood setting, and the integration of sound with visual elements. This project has been instrumental in honing my ability to create a cohesive narrative that engages the audience, ensuring that the cultural and historical richness of the Hermitage is conveyed with the reverence it deserves.
